Supposedly the 787 wouldn't be able to make PER-LHR if the plane had wifi. The small satellite bump reduces the efficiency of the plane and increase fuel consumption.
23/3/18 will be the second last A380 QF10 before the change to 787 via Perth. If WiFi is to be fitted to the A380s, I would expect that the pending refurb would be the best opportunity for that work. (Not by March 18).
Qantas don't have Wi-Fi on any international service. As result I give priority to other One World airlines who do have Wi-Fi when flying long haul. For example, I just booked London-Doha-Sydney return, on Qatar in Business Class, because it has Wi-Fi (as well as having a better business class product, full stop).
Qantas will probably implement international Wi-Fi in about 2019/2020. And no doubt there will be a big song and dance for months about it and excitement and celebrations at how amazing it is.

I’d nudge it up a level from pity to pathetic. Not having wifi option these days is up there with airlines that used to think that the screen at the end of the cabin was acceptable when the world had moved to back seat screens. (Hi united, I’m looking at you) and it’s not like these planes are “end of life”. Is qantas going to solve this “whoops we didn’t factor this into our distance calcs” or is this plane a 20 year wifi lemon... gosh, sorry, look at me (stepping down from my soapbox)

No long haul QF aircraft currently have active wifi equipment.

When the A380s first came online, QF had an internet section in the IFE, but it was never turned on and the web browse menu later removed.
