Dear ABT community,

My wife (QFF Silver) will be travelling with QF in J to LHR (landing at T3) and then, after a 5h layover, onwards with BA from T3 in J to continental Europe. Will she have access to the new QF T3 LHR lounge during her layover, or, because her onward flight is with BA and she is not OW-SAPPH, will have access only to the less fancy BA T3 business class lounge?

If the latter, could she technically redeem her QF lounge invite to gain access to QF's lounge, as her onward flight is with OW?

The entire trip was purchase via QF, though the BA flight does not have a QF code-share number.

Many thanks for sharing your experience

This is clearly explained in the access & eligibility rules shown on the QANTAS website.

As she is flying Oneworld Business (see the bottom of the list of those eligible to access) she can get into the lounge, but with no guests. Had it been a QANTAS marketed flight or had she had Oneworld Sapphire (or greater) status she would have been allowed a guest.

She could try the Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge if she prefers (or do both). The QANTAS and Cathay Pacific lounges are very close to each other.

Note she'll need to keep an eye on screens showing when the flight commences boarding assuming the flight is listed. If it's not listed on the screens she'll need to allow adequate time to leave to make sure she gets to the plane on time.

Always check when entering a lounge whether your flight will be called or not. Even if it will be called don't rely on it.

Many thanks mviy!!

Just out of curiosity: this would mean that every BA J passenger could then use the QF/CX lounge at LHR T3? Wonder how many OW J pax are aware of this and how many do it and if QF implies any restrictions on access if lounge gets packed. I have never been, but judging from the report & photos one would not want to spend too much time at BAs T3 J lounge...

If flying from T3 then yes many with OneWorld lounge Access would go to Cathay Pacific or QF lounges one would think. The last few times I’ve flown QANTAS from London I’ve visited the Cathay Pacific Lounge.

Most BA flights go from T5, so if on one of those flights you couldn’t use the T3 lounges. As BA uses multiple terminals they can manage which routes they’d like to fly from T3.

QF like all airline lounge operators does reserve the right to turn people away due to capacity constraints, however they would try to avoid doing this as much as possible.

With the lounge open for many hours during which there won’t be people waiting for a QF flight they are clearly hoping many passengers of other airlines will use the lounge whether due to OW Access or due to special arrangements with an airline to use the lounge.

If a OW passenger visits the QF lounge, QF charges the OW airline for this. So it’s in QF’s interest to have lots of eligible OW passengers visit.
