do JQ to Bali? I've found that sometimes you get quite good deals adding the bundles. Otherwise, check if MEL-SYD-DPS could be an option?
Otherwise... I think recently there was a MEL-SYD/BNE to Noumea in J for 1000 for 440 SCs.
Another one worthwhile checking may be MEL-SYD-CHC with QF/EK.

Is that MEL-SYD/BNE to Noumea 1000 for 440SCS with double status bonuses? Because I missed that double status promotion.

No DSC, yet enough availability until Nov. same price but only 440SCs.

Mmm, tends to be that way at times. So if you did Mel-dps with JQ (bundle) and then DPS-KL would that get you over the amount of SCs you need? Also, have you considered the 50SCs you would get after hitting 500SCs? Could make the difference!

Is all of this really worth it? Why not just buy qantas club? Based on your credits total it seems you are only travelling domestic so the difference between QClub and gold is minimal at best.

Mel-Syd is 40, Syd to Noumea is 60. Return is 200sc so how do you get 440?

Because you can’t access the Lounge if you are not travelling Qantas. And most of the time Qantas to Europe is like 200-300 more expensive than Qatar. Also more expensive than Latam for flights to Santiago. Jal to Japan also has better service and average 100-200 cheaper than Qantas, much larger leg room in its economy plus 2-4-2 configuration to standard 3-3-3 on the Dreamliner. Wider seats. Qantas uses A330 but the space and entertainment can not compete with JAL unless Qantas uses its Dreamliner for such route.

So the plan is to spend a couple of grand to save a couple of hundred here and there?

Really, QF SG is not the elixir.
WP or P1 now that is the top. Good if you are working your way up to these, but if you are going to stop at QF SG, read the below.
I have been on QF SG for 2.5 years now, and have only about 30% had a shadow, access to the QF lounge can be had with QP, ...
If you flew a lot, for work, then its a different kettle of fish as you work up to WP/P1, but to work up so hard to QF SG, nah, not really worth it.
Thats my opinion, and to each their own, but I had been in your position, chasing QF SG, till I discovered, its not all worth the money spent.
In the begining, I thought QF SG would always give me a shadow, ie, empty seat next to me, but in the end, I found out, really/realistically, its not so!
I will instead now keep QP and buy QF comfort seat request, (empty seat next to me), or fly VA and get Y(X).
If I had to fly QF, it would be comfort seat request for sure.
IF you want to splurge, MEL - SIN with EK but with a QF flight number, this would give you a tease/test of the EK service, a return J or F MEL - SIN with EK but a QF flight number, gives you access to the EK MEL lounge, visit the QF MEL F lounge, if flying F, bar on board the 380, EK lounge in SIN, and QF lounge in SIN.
Like I said, this is what I have done, if I was in the OP's shoes, and get it over in one go. And no small side trips.
