Very disappointed with SPG, travellers have been suffering with the concept of "Resort Fees" which is unreasonable, today I was looking at booking a hotel in Seoul, definitely not a resort (FourPoints in Seoul), looked at the rate - possibly ok, expected taxes to be added (why don't organisations include tax when we have to pay it), and then I find a hidden fee called a "Services Fee".

No-one really knows what it is when I called, but it appears that it is a tax dodge in South Korea, you pay for a room, then pay tax on that, then pay for unknown services for where there is no tax payable, no-one can tell me what the services actually are. Am I paying for the laundry of my sheets, or daily towels. What happens if I don't want some of the services.

This appears to be a tax avoidance scheme and another way of misrepresenting room rate to customers.

Just say you won't pay it and if they argue you can do a chargeback through your credit card.

With due respect, this is horrible advice.

If this was a hidden or non-disclosed charge, there would be grounds for a chargeback. In this case, the service fee is fairly disclosed and the OP is aware of it. To request a chargeback in such a situation would be bordering on fraud.
