Indeed, WLG isn’t particularly well served from any Australian port. I presume that reflects demand, which surprises me a bit as it’s a fantastic city and destination from a tourist point of view. Very much the second city of NZ from a business and government perspective as well, particularly given the very sad shift of business away from CHC.
As of today, it still does not have a VA flight number, and does not show up on the VA/VFF website.
I have some points to use, and was wanting P+P for this flight, but it does not appear in VA/VFF websites.
It does appear on SQ website, and the fare is quite cheap for J at about Aud$5x5 or so, with 2 seats left for my planned date.
Guess it will be ok to book the flight under the SQ flight # and put in your VFF # if your planned flight is coming up soon.
Not sure if VA/VFF will ever put the VA flight number up for this route on that SQ metal. Shows up with the (Air)NZ flight number, but no J on MEL - WLG flying (Air)NZ direct, VA metal the fare is very $$$ for J.
SQ fares are the cheapest though, so book with the SQ website ASAP if you need that J seat.
Edit: ah, so some have seen the VA flight # on that routing, but this particular flight detail still does not appear on VA/VFF website.

It’s possible, but VA already codeshares with ANZ on that route.

The codeshare for MEL-WLG will be VA5419, as the SQ247 will operate this route (which already got the VA5419 codeshare).
