Travelling to Montreal via LAX. VA flight numbers all the way, but the LAX to YUL leg is with Air Canada. I know I can get points for the AC leg but don't get S/C for it. Not much I can do about that though.
Have a 3 hour stopover in LAX, which SHOULD be more than enough to get me through TSA checkpoints.
Given we are VA coded all the way to Montreal, are we able to access a lounge in LAX for the transit period?
I was unsure of the status credits with the recent Codeshare arrangements.
I contacted VA direct and they were adamant that there would be no status credits on AC flights - even if they had a VA number.
It was my understanding that there were no status credits even when VA coded on Air Canada flights. I don't know why they were carved out specifically, but they were.
The status credit charts still include the footnote: Includes all Virgin Australia codeshare services operated by
partner airlines with a VA flight number except Air Canada operated
services.
My wife and I are doing a Vancouver trip in a few weeks. VA1 to LAX then CA product to VYR. We're travelling business.... couple of questions:
Will we get access to the lounge at LAX? What lounge can we use?
We have 3 hours in LAX - enough time to get our bags, transfer to terminal 6 from TB and get through TSR? Do you think we should take carry on only, or is checking a bag OK?
I usually allow 2 hours to get through TSA , pick up my bag, and head on out. I've been as quick as 20 minutes, and as long as 2 hours. Depends on what time you land at LAX. And how many breaks the TSA people take. They don't rush things there.
I'd say 3 hours is heaps long enough to get your bags and then go to the AC counter. There are free buses running between the terminals.
I'm not entirely sure of the lounge access on the way over. Guess it might be a bit different if you were flying the LAX to YVL leg with Delta, as you access their lounge. But as stated above by "FrequentFlyer", the codeshare with AC does not yet include lounge access.
I've accessed Etihad and Emirates lounges when travelling back to AU, BUT.... I think this access usually applies to Flights out. So when you come back in to LAX from YVL, you should be able to access these lounges.
On another note - there are major works being done at LAX to lounges. You can read it here:

If you're booked on a VA code for the Air Canada legs you'll earn status credits in addition to points at VA rates.
