I have a friend who has 50k points and said I can use this for a business class flight one way if I wanted too... I believe a one way flight from Syd-HK is around 56k points?
My question is, can he/I purchase the 6k points that I lack to book a business class reward flight? Also does anyone have any idea how much points cost per 1k increments?
It is possible to buy points and 6000 will set you back $215. Google "Qantas buy points" and click on the first link.
Your apparently only able to buy points if you've got a specific flight in mind and are ready to book. I've never personally bought Qantas points so can't comment on this.
I'm also not 100% sure but I think when purchasing a reward for someone else you need to say their relationship to the ticket purchaser. If this is the case with your booking just be careful as many have had Qantas accounts and tickets suspended because of incorrectly stating they are related when they're not.
Perhaps look at the monthly credit card offers list on this site. ANZ black is an option.
If you can manage the spend you can probably get the points you need without having to buy them. Perhaps you can even try to get an upgrade on both sectors.
Yes, you are able to ring Qantas for top-up points. You can purchase up to 20% of points required for the reward seat. Note you can do that twice a year (I believe). As highlighted, a good option is getting wine from Epiqure as most of the time, you get points credited a few days after your purchase
When I looked up SYD-HGK Business Classic Reward it says 60,000 points plus $189 Fees & Taxes. As others have said the transfer of points is to an eligible family member. You can find the list on the Qantas Website under the Frequent Flyer section. Qantas EpiQure is a great way to get points fast. There are some 5,000 bonus point offers on at the moment.

You should buy a case of wine from Qantas. Similar price to Dan Murphy and you will get 6-8K of QFF points as the bonus.
