I think VA has a transfer service if you have a connecting flight at LAX. I have a connecting flight from MCO (Orlando)-LAX with Delta and the LAX-SYD-BNE flight with VA. If anyone used this, Please let me know how it went. It will be helpful if this service works. I know what to do in SYD but my Delta flight arrives at T2 or T3 and transferring at LAX can be a pain as I will need to handle 12 bags (8 checked and 4 carry-on) at once so that 4 people I am handling. Thanks in advance for your opinions and review. Â
If you're flying from the US to Australia on the one booking, your luggage will be checked through from your first port in the USA (in your case, Orlando) to your first entry port in Australia (in your case, Sydney), where you'll need to collect all of your bags, clear customs and passport control, and take them to VA's domestic transfer facility to drop them off or check them in for your onward flight (depending on what your baggage tag says).
However, what "transfer service" are you referring to in LA? If you've arrived on a Delta flight you just jump on a bus to TBIT where VA's flights depart. The only passengers who get concierge-type assistance are members of The Club.
Last week I flew from JFK-LAX on Delta and arrived in terminal 2, when I disembarked off the plane there was a Virgin Australia staff member with a sign directing those who were connecting to VA.
There is a bus that connects the Delta terminals (2 and 3) to TBIT where Virgin departs, it is extremely easy and free. The bus leaves from near gate 22 in terminal 2. I found the transfer extremely easy but I was connecting to the Delta Sydney flight - not VA.

This works for any flight leaving TBIT, as long as your baggage has been checked through.
I flew from ATL - BNE via LAX. When I got off the flight in LA, there was a VA person with a sign pointing to the transfer point. You just wander down the stairs and there are two options. One to the other Delta terminal to.
I'm not sure if VA have someone 'welcoming' all flights but if they don't just know that both DL terminals offer the transfer, so look for the signs or ask someone. Do this as it avoids you having to go through security again (assuming you checked your luggage all the way through of course).
