Besides the fact that this is really horrible aircraft utilization, one other thing about this pic interests me. How come GIA was allowed to have its 77W depart LHR at close to 1am, when I thought LHR had a curfew of no flights past 11.30pm, and stories of plane-full passengers ready for deprarture and having to return to the gate because they couldn't make it down the runway in time? Was there anything causing IRROPS at LHR?

Its an imaginary curfew and will be again if they get a noisy new rwy.

If an airline schedules its etd before 2330 it can take off anytime.
Nothing the operator says or agrees to is reality.

Heathrow does have a curfew between 11:30pm and 6am however they allow 5,800 movements (either a takeoff or landing per year). It seems like a lot but when you divide it by 365 it's really only 15 movements per day.

Typically most of the 15 per day allotment is used on early arrivals from Long Haul however they'll occasionally use the allotments on late flights/irrops etc if needed.

I should also point out it's a bit more complicated than that. They've got different quotas for summer/winter and the size of the aircraft (Similar to Sydney in a way).

Not so much a "no flights allowed" curfew, it's a movement restriction with a sound quota system.
