Qantas MEL int'l business lounge is your best bet for catering, but is otherwise a VERY grim affair. If you find it to be too busy, definitely head to AMEX for some peace and quiet.

If it's just a short visit the Qantas Lounge is fine. The most disappointing element is that it has no view and in fact no windows at all.

Qantas lounge is still the best, for food and space, although I have been to the Amex lounge once and it gives it a run for its money. The CX lounge has nice dumplings and they will call your flight, so I tend to head there after spending some time at the others.

So does it mean that CX J class guests can visit both CX and QF business lounge?

Qantas lounges at Tullamarine is better than CX one. Think about this: CX operates a 00:50 flights in Melbourne daily. Once I arrived the CX lounge I asked the ground staff how many guests tonight? She replied me approximately 70 eligible for that flight. I went QF First instead. 70 out of 275 passengers means a high percentage.

They are both OneWorld airlines. Why not? FYI Sydney airport has no CX lounges. Where do J passengers go?

I should check with the ground staff next time too. Handy tips, thanks.

But I only have access to the QF Business lounge :(

Business passengers at Sydney can access qf business lounge, if you have Amex card, you can access the Amex lounge as well. If you have Oneworld emerald through Qf platinum or similar, you can access the excellent Qantas first lounge.
