Anyone with experience on how best to use Iberia Avios (assuming no transfer to BA Avios) in Aus/ex Aus?

I guess you've seen the current promo Iberia is running?

In Australia, Qantas is a oneworld partner (and so you can use points on QF flights). The award chart is by miles so a flight under 600 miles in Business is 22,000 miles. Under the current promo you can get up to 90,000 miles for ~$400. Under that table 90,000 or $400 could get you 2 return business class from Sydney to Melbourne.

Yep, Iberia's search engine is horrible it seems. Doesn't allow any departing from Aus locations. Does this have to be done through their call centre or something?

Apparently, it can be done online. You have to be logged in online and then select "Avios with Oneworld" (or something like that during the search process. Award space will match what other partners like AA or BA see and if it's not possible to book it over the internet then I guess you'll have to call (and pay a service fee).

You can convert them to BA miles super easily and then it's quite easy (and relatively cheap) to use them for QF

In the Facebook response, they said that promotional avios cannot be transferred to BA and are allowed to redeem IB operated flights only... So, good luck.

Can not be transferred, but you CAN use them to book on IB or any partner airlines. Theres no restrictions on this in the promo T&Cs
