It has an option for one-way booking which got me thinking - is it possible to book an open jaw ticket - say SYD-MEL and ADL-SYD? SYD-MEL-SYD and SYD-ADL-SYD are both allowed with the complimentary return flight.
Officially the answer is no to open-jaw tickets as the free flight is valid for a return flight only, or you may take it one-way and forfeit the return.
You can always try call up and ask, though I've been previously refused this request before.
Call 1300 153 006 - I believe it's a department of Virgin Australia who focus on the AmEx Velocity free flight redemption.
I was also refused this request about 2 months ago. However I was able to succesfully upgrade to business even though they said it could not be done.
Yes it would seem that the policy is that it cant be done, but once its booked it can. So dont confuse the issue by asking customer service people they are only going to tell you what the policy is, just do it.
