Have QF started weighing every carry bag? Had my bag weighed for the first time in years today boarding 566 PER-SYD. Staff said all the high tier FF had been written too. I’m P and have not seen anything.
We all know the weight rules just rarely see them enforced. Staff said something around new CASA regulations.
Has anyone had a similar experience or knows anything about the change in approach?
I am also P and have flown business this week Bris/Syd return and Bris/melb return.. No checking and lots of people carrying on bags(multiple) which would have been well over any allowance figure.
Flown BNE to MEl last week, no weighing and usual unproductive priority boarding. Luckily still plenty of overhead bin space, no stuffing hand luggage maniacs.
New CASA rules is on fuel management, which now have to be declared as full emergency Mayday. So, QF may be watching fuel uptake vs weight on medium haul??? Obviously, i’m guessing.
This seems to be happening at random. It's being done here and there, but certainly not across the board.
My main hope is that they are also using the bag sizer, as the size of the bags is much more important than the weight, in ensuring that there is sufficient space for everyone's carry-on.
That is why I get boarding pass in the lounge...no scales. I have had hand luggage weighed on and odd over the years. EK also does it from time to time.
I usually fly overweight (big camera, so is usually waived) and I've been weighed before, but it isn't universal. In maybe 100 flights in the last year, my carry on has been weighed 3 times.

Checking for every flight would be too costly so random testing is the way they are going.

On QF653 atm, and any suspect bags are weighed and gate checked (if over limit)
