I would also suggest the Le Meridien, great if you are an SPG member, Platinum level gives you great upgrades, small but comfortable lounge and great food in the restaurant. It is close to the MTR and only a short walk to Taipei 101. There are great restaurants lose by, open malls with entertainment and shopping malls as well.
I can aso recommend the Grand Hyatt - excellent rooms, executive lounge and service. In addition to the nearby Metro and Taipei 101, the Sun Yat-sen memorial and museum is a short walk away if you are interested in the history of the Republic of China. The nearby Peking restaurant is good for traditional Chinese food, but best to go with a group of locals and they will order the best.

Had a brilliant stay at the Okura Prestige - gorgeous rooms, kind and attentive staff. Near the metro and lots of modern & traditional shopping.
