10 hour connection from JQ to QF domestic in Melbourne - checked luggage

I've got a JQ domestic morning flight to Melbourne, connecting for about 10 hours before a late QF business class evening flight to Perth, with a checked bag.


The reason for this is that I need to spend all day working first, so might as well use the lounge.

It's all booked on the one ticket. However, I realise that Melbourne airport doesn't really do all day check-in, and JQ don't transfer luggage to QF.

When's the earliest QF can accept my baggage for the 8:30pm departure? If it's not for a while, then is waiting outside security or putting my luggage in storage for a few hours my only options?

If you have checked in already (so have a boarding pass via the app or online) they you can bag drop at any time during the day. I've dropped by bag in at SYD and then heading into town for the day before, so I don't see why that wouldn't also be fine in Melb.

I'm not sure why you think you will have an issue checking in early for your Qantas flight. Attend a check in machine, chuck it on the baggage belt and head to the lounge.
