A very busy weekend for the global travel industry!

AIRPORTS:

LaGuardia (LGA), New York: American Airlines opened it's new, fully redesigned domestic Terminal 1 facility on Friday. It became fully operational on Saturday and now lends a whole new airside experience for QF/AA flyers ex LGA to domestic locations throughout the USA. Whilst this is an entirely welcome update to LGA, traffic and construction facilities around the landside of the airport is still highly questionable during the construction of the centre and Terminal 2 buildings.

Los Angeles (LAX): Not to be outdone, Southwest unveiled their completely redesigned Terminal 1 at LAX. The terminal is now spacious, light and airy as well as providing substantial banks of self-check terminals in an area that was previously somewhat dingy and unappealing. All design work done by Westfield Corporation and adds a significant number of concession and eating outlets. A major improvement for travellers checking in with America's 2nd largest airline (by capitalisation) and one of the most 'LUV'ved LCC's.

ALLIANCES:

Alaska Airlines (AS) announced it is considering joining oneworld as the alliance's 2nd 'Connect' member - behind Fiji Airways which announced some 4 months ago.

AIRLINES:

Air New Zealand (NZ) launched it's non-stop Auckland (AKL) to Chicago (ORD) B787 service on Saturday. As an inaugural, a complete success with the aircraft inbound to Chicago arriving some 50 minutes early and filled with notaries such as the CEO Christopher Luxon etc. A maori haka welcome was performed on arrival.
