Hi, I'm looking to book some travel from MEL to SIN and return in July next year, using my United Mileage Plus miles. Unfortunately, the only flight on offer in J is the 247/248 flight which continues on to Wellington which is currently served by a B777-200 with the old sloping sleeper 2-2-2 seat layout. There are plenty of flights on newer aircraft on offer if I log in using my KrisFlyer account, but I believe Singapore Airlines only offers business rewards to it's Star Alliance partners on it's older (much older) aircraft, so that's all I can get using Mileage Plus.
Does anyone know if the 247/248 rotation may be in line for upgrade to a newer aircraft at any stage next year? I'll probably book this now and hope for an aircraft change beforehand.
Hi Hakkinen5, all of Singapore Airlines’ older aircraft, namely the A330 and B777-200 are due for a renewal in the next year or so. The B772 is especially old, some are approaching 16 years old! SQ plan to replace these older aircraft with the Boeing 787-10 and the A350-900 regional variant. Both of these feature modern 1-2-1 configuration seating with fully flat beds. Their A330 services to Perth and Adelaide have been replaced with the Boeing 787-10 and A350-900 Regional respectively. So most likely, within the next year we will see SQ retire their A330 and B777-200 aircraft to make way for newer aircraft. Most likely your SQ247/248 upgrade will be to the A350 maybe around October next year.

Thanks, Ryan.
So far SQ have only replaced one 777-200 service to Perth with a 787-10. The other 3 flights a day remain scheduled with A330s and 777s as far as bookings are available next year.
I'm booked on a United rewards flight on business on SQ248 from WLG to SIN in about 2 weeks. Just received an email notifying me of an aircraft change on the SQ248, went from the 777-200 to "Various aircraft". So perhaps some change is in the works!
