Hi all, just booked myself a business class trip to China on a Tianjin/Hainan Airlines combo. My flights are MEL-CKG-CAN and return. I booked through the Hainan Airlines website so I was unable to select seats for the MEL-CKG leg. I also tried to manage the booking through Tianjin Airlines website but still didn’t allow me to select seats. I was wondering if anyone had flown this leg? It’s on an A330-300. Is it the new 1-2-1 scattered layout or the older 2-2-2 layout? Obviously I’ll be able to check in online and check closer to the date but was curious if someone knew. Thanks in advance for your assistance :)

I generally recommend calling them to select seats if possible. Based on the limited information online, it seems that Tianjin Airlines only operate the 2-2-2 business class layout whilst Hainan offers both.

I agree! It's a cheap way to earn velocity points and status credits as well given they're a partner.

Before you book the seat, make sure the fare is eligible for point and SC.

The $390 MEL-XIY ticket i brought didn't come with any.

If it's business class I think you'll getpoints and status no problem.

Selecting seats on Chinese airlines has never worked for me (they all seem to use the same system/website) so either call or just wait until check in. I started booking through a travel agent and they're able to select seats.

Hainan is a great airline, think Tianjin has the same seats that Hainan uses BNE-SZX, which are comfy enough, and exceedingly good for what you pay.
