There are at least a minimum of 348 hotels in the Canton of Zurich, Stu.
Care to be a bit more specific? ie: reason for trip (business vs holiday vs transit), approx. length of stay (number of nights), need to be near transportation (or not), style of hotel (business, luxury, celebration, cost-effective, basic).
As I'm sure you are probably aware, ZRH isn't cheap … and without any given qualifications from you, it makes it somewhat difficult to 'accurately' recommend something appropriate.
Zurich town centre is pretty small but as kimshep menitoned it's pretty expensive everywhere. The Continental - M Gallery by Sofitel is walking distance from the old town centre and very comfortable and quiet. I'd recommend it if it's just for a short visit.
Sorry kimshep, I was a bit vauge. I'm staying for two nights on business and will be working from near the Botanic Gardens. I'm quite happy to work to walk, even if it is up to a 20 minute walk as I am told it is quite nice there at the moment.
I am happy with standard accommodation. I was aware that it can be expensive and the business I am visiting like 5 Star hotels, however I don't need that nor wish to pay for that. If you know of something thank you.
I stayed at The Continental once and can recommend it as well. It's pretty centrally located and you can walk to most places around the CBD area.
Also a couple of rather....'think outside the box' recommendations: Motel One Zurich and 25hours Langstrasse. Despite the 'motel' title, they are both well located and have a boutique~ish feel with interesting deco. The rooms might be on the smaller side, but they are clean and modern. Both of them have surprisingly nice bars and the continental brekkie is nicely done. They are also more affordable than most other hotels in Zurich.
If you need the airport for an early flight, I can recommend the Welcome Inn at Kloten, near the airport. Good room, decent size, shuttle bus to the airport, and very reasonably priced. I think there's public transport into the city nearby.
Try the Krone Unterstrass Hotel at Kronenstrasse, very nice if exe... they are used to Aussies staying. Can also recommend the Hotel Allegra at Kloten - cheaper, free airport shuttle, excellent train service to most of Switzerland (via Zürich HBf).
The Krone Unterstrass (as recommended above) is my favourite hotel in Zurich. It's easy to get too (as is everywhere in Zurich) by public transport. From the main station catch tram 11 or 14 (Bahnhofquai platforms, far platform for both) to Kronenstrasse (the stop is outside the hotel) - very frequent, just over 5 mins journey time. Or from the airport catch tram 10 to Schaffhauserplatz and walk about 200m. Also very frequent, journey time about 30 mins and very civilised. Have fun. RC
Schweitzerhof Hotel is our fave - Right opp central station with main shopping st Bahnhofstrasse around the corner on the way to botanic gdns. Lovely hotel..

Hi all, I’m looking for a reasonable 3 - 4 star hotel centrally located in Zurich. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I've stayed at the Continental a few times. Very close to the train station, which is why I chose to stay there.

The Swisshotel was quite good, has a tram and train right out the front. Reasonably priced.

I have stayed at Romantic Hotel Europe (bit xy) and Hotel Seehof Zurich, both a stone throw from the Opera House, would stay at both again.

I really like Best Western Zurcherhoff, recently renovated, in old town but on quiet street. 5-10 Minutes walk to main train station.
