Just wondering if anybody has experience of using a company/website that offers the ability to book city transfers from a variety of overseas airports. There a few organisations that offer this sort of thing on the web but I wonder how people have found this service in reality? Has it been cost effective compared to just picking up a local taxi? Has it been reliable and safe?
I find getting a local taxi or uber if available is always cheaper than arranging a transfer - I do however generally always have local currency from previous trips or try to get some in the terminal before taking a cab, as I try never to rely on having the ability to use a card for payment. Also I'm quite comfortable dealing with any situations that arise on the ground rather than wanting to walk out of arrivals to simply find my name on a board to avoid dealing with any local difficulties. I don't think I've ever found a transfer service online or through our company TMC that is cheaper than a standard taxi. Just make sure to avoid any touts!
When booking these chaffeur transfer services, I don't do it for the cost savings. I do it because its either inconvienient to get a taxi or another specific reason. In almost all cases, taxis in developed countries are not hard to deal with and they are pretty comfortable. I've booked these transfer services only when its really late at night where there might not be many taxis or in countries where getting taxis are tough and or involve lots of haggling. Those cases, I just use a transfer service to my hotel which the many 4-5 star properties offer.
Many thanks for the suggestion. I will check out their website and compare prices to an Uber or local taxi. I'm prepared to pay extra but not a crazy amount more.
Very. And I've used them in places like Baku and Almaty, as well as the slightly more mainstream like Moscow.
They book with a local provider (so they're effectively an agent) but that means the do the legwork of finding someone reliable and dealing with payment.

Hi Rufus, used them once and they were fine - how reliable have you found them?
