Hi all. I need to travel from London to singapore in November. I have the option between qantas direct and cathay via hong Kong.Which one would you recommend? I will be traveling alone and in business. I hold qantas platinum, so I am hoping to spend some time in the cathay first lounge in London and the new qantas lounge. I will be connecting from Rome on ba.

Thanks for your help

Take the direct flight. Unless you have a wish to try out Cathay.

Do you live in Perth? Otherwise one stop either way surely?

I think the poster is flying between London and Singapore not Australia, Singapore and London.

But he/she does put to Australia in the title.

Only the QF A380 flies LHR to SIN, otherwise the A330/A350 with CX.
OP, if you are paying $ and going J/subclass of J, I would go with QF as you earn max QFFpoints and QF SC.
Check the QF website points and SC calculator to see what the difference in earning of QFFpoints and QF SC is, between QF & CX.

My mistake, i am only flying from London to singapore. I must have had a brain fart.

I was leaning toward QF. I guess I was wondering if cathay was so much better with direct aisle seating and food, that the extra stop and longer trip was worth it.

Thanks again.

Other option in Finnair, if you could BA to Helsinki then fly from HEL to SIN. Finnair I don't think is as good as Qantas Business Class but the A350 is probably pretty close compared to A380 Skybed.

I chose Finnair earlier this year based on cost, it was better value for money than Qantas and has decent Status earn compared to BA or Cathay.

As QF Platinum, you must have done a bunch of QF flying. Try CX if you like, as it’s unlikely you’ll jag an upgraded Business Class A380 on QF. Or go QF one way, and CX the other...

If you were going to do a stop i would go with Qatar and try to get the Qsuite. The lounge in LHR is quite good also

Can you just go from Rome to Singapore via Hong Kong on CX..? Might saves lot of $$$ and time

How pressed for time are you, how highly do you rate trying a different airline to Qantas, and does a stopover have any appeal for you?

London to Singapore on the Qantas A380 is obviously the fastest way to go. It doesn't have the best business class seat but it's good enough, and how many more hours is a better seat worth?

If you are not pressed for time and you want to sample a different airline then Cathay Pacific is a great one to try, especially if you want to visit Hong Kong for any reason. Otherwise it's a lot of extra time though, because you are going all the way to HK and then a few hours at the airport and four more hours to Singapore.

I think the suggestion earlier to go with Qatar is very smart. Qatar has a great lounge at T4, and you can get the Qsuites business class London to Doha and Doha to Singapore. If you want to sample a different airline and don't want to stop over in a city, just transit at the airport, Qatar would get my vote over Cathay.

Just flew on the Finnair A350; one of the best products in the sky; great bed, excellent service and superb food.

I don't rate Cathay's business product at all. I'd fly Qantas business if given the choice between the two.
