Sorry if this is a bit of a novice Q. For the first ever time, I am flying Jetstar (LOL). I'm flying AKL-BNE (QF metal, ticket) and then onwards BNE-CNS 3h later (JQ metal, same QF ticket w/ QF flight number). I guess one of the great advantages was timing, otherwise, I hope I actually get to Cairns haha.
Having never flown JQ, let alone on the same ticket; I wondered if anyone had done this before? Can I expect to be checked-in for the JQ sector back in Auckland? I realise I need to collect bags and send them through quarantine as entering Australia in Brisbane. Does one earn the same status credits and FF points as though it were a usual Qantas service (I assume so, but assumptions aren't always a great idea haha). Also I did try logging into the Jetstar website to preselect seats (I rang Jetstar to ascertain the Jetstar reservation number) but it gave me some strange error when I clicked on "select seats." Does anyone have experience with this?

Most of your assumptions are correct bit do note seat selection dos not occur wth all QANTAS partners with QF code shares, and presumably not when they are a low cost carrier. For example on my US flights QF doesn't have access to AA seats.
I also put my QF booking reference straight into manage my booking on the Jetstar website. Did it 2 weeks ago off a QF booked, ticketed but Jetstar operated flight and had 1C up and 1D back on both my flights, plus meal and full points/SC.
Only difference for you is that I flew 3K Jetstar Asia rather than JQ Jetstar Australia. Perhaps that's why you couldn't do the same?
