Travelling on the QF9 domestic sector next week. I understand that check-in opens 3hrs before the flight. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck of the flight being opened prior to this? Travelling with hand luggage only.
If you've got hand luggage only you can check in online/mobile app 24 hours before. You don't need to go to the counter at the airport to check in. Get your boarding pass on your phone and go straight through security to the gate or lounge or cafe.
If I recall correctly, QF9/10 domestic sector-only passengers do need a physical boarding pass with the orange 'D' sticker to get through immigration and customs. Online check-in won't issue a boarding pass.
I'm not sure how that works with hand luggage only and early counter check-in though, sorry. Perhaps the T1 Qantas Domestic service counters could help you.

You can't check in on the phone for this flight. Physical check-in and boarding pass needed as they put the big orange D sticker on the boarding pass.
As this is an international flight you CANNOT check in on the app. You have to check in at a counter to receive a printed boarding pass with a large D sticker. You then go through to customs and you have to line up and be checked with photo ID.
Yes internet check in not permitted, you need the actual boarding pass with the Orange Domestic sticker, and photo Id preferably passport. Check maybe 3.5 hours before departure
You can check in online, but you require a printed boarding pass with an orange sticker to say that you a domestic passenger travelling on an international service. You can only do this once the flight is opened, which is 3 hours before departure.

And don't forget your photo ID either. Passport or driving licence. Need your boarding pass on arrival too.

Yes and DO NOT loose your boarding pass as you have to go through a mini customs in Perth.
