Theres a small hertz gold choice area at Melbourne airport. Ive never dabbled but wondering if anyone has tried it? Just walk up and jump in the car you want?
In the USA, you just walk to the allocated area for your status and pick any car there.
I use Hertz gold service in Melbourne a lot, I'm Presidents Circle (whatever that actually means!). Normally I pick my car before I arrive and then you do bypass the main office but mostly you still need to get the keys from the small office at the actual car park area. Last time (August) there was someone at a collapsible table outside the office with the keys. He just handed them to me after checking ID.
I think once or maybe twice I have been able to go straight to the car as and just check ID on the way out but that seems the exception and I can't recall being able to choose from a selection like we can in the US.
The funniest thing in Melbourne though is that they are forever upgrading me, even when I make a note for them not to. I like a small SUV so go for the Audi Q2 these days, but they upgrade me to a Q5 which is nice but unnecessary. And when I ask to go back to the Q2 on more than one occasion they'd run out of them.
Hi Aggie - yes gold service is hit and miss at Melbourne. I was referring to the Gold Choice section, where supposedly if you dont like the car you've been given, there's a small selection (4-5) cars that you can just jump into instead. Opposite the office/M row)

How do you pick your car before you arrive? I've never had that option with Hertz.

In Australia I generally book a âget this exact model' option.

Ah, sorry for misreading your question. Sorry, I've never tried that.
