Am planning a trip to London in June. Gave up on classic award seats. Two choices left. Premium economy on QF1/QF2 or business class on an AA ticket flying via Dallas (DFW). The SYD to DFW and DFW to SYD legs would be on QF7/8. AA flights DFW to LHR and LHR to DFW. Cost difference about $A1600.
Any thoughts on preference appreciated also on status credits? I have 700K QF points which seem useless in the current environment.
It partly depends on the date of your trip in June. QF1 changes from the 787 to an A380 on 19th June. Many people dislike the Premium Economy seats in the 787.
Classic Reward seats in premium cabins to London are always rare, and any are grabbed by those with high Status 12 months ahead.
Bear in mind any international transiting of the USA requires you to enter the US, completing immigration requirements (obtain an ESTA), pick up checked luggage and then check it in once more, going back through security etc. You should factor in at least 2 hours for the arrival leg in case of delays, before the check-in time closes for the subsequent flight. As long as you are happy to go through that, then go for business.
DFW is a great airport and nicer by far than LAX. It can get busy at times in immigration though, especially if you are not a US citizen. That said, the Texas welcome is usually a warm one. AA Flagship Business is pretty good, plus you get priority through security and lounge access also. If you have the time I recommend a stopover in Dallas. By all means see the JFK assassination museum if that appeals, and if interested in aviation the Frontiers of Flight museum at Dallas Love Field has some interesting aircraft plus the Apollo 7 command module. The Texas Rangers play major league baseball indoors in air-conditioned comfort at Globe Life Field.

Business class any day over premium economy. Its also difficult to get an upgrade on QF01/02 unless you're platinum or higher.

Thank you for your responses. Helped me decide. Flying AA 7261 (aka QF7) I presume I earn a lower level of status credits and points.
