Hobart to get Hyatt Centric hotel in 2019

Hyatt's boutique brand Hyatt Centric is planting its flag in Australia, with the hip new hotel to open in Hobart in early 2019.

The cosmopolitan vibe of the 221-room hotel will be well-suited to Hobart and attractions such as the Museum of Old and New Art.

Hobart has been one of Hyatt's strongest performing hotel markets in Australia in recent years, we're told, fuelled by a steady economy and strong tourism arrivals from China, the United States and the UK as well as domestic visitors from around Australia.

"The Hyatt Centric brand offers an upscale, cosmopolitan experience that was created for millennial-minded travellers" explains David Udell, group president Asia Pacific for Hyatt Hotels.

So what exactly does that mean? Less cookie-cutter rooms and more of a unique design plus mod-cons such as "Bluetooth-enabled electronics and salon-grade blowdryers."

Hyatt will work with Hobart-based JAWS Architects and Dreamtime Australia Design "to create bespoke, artisan and inspired interiors" for the property, in keeping with the other Hyatt Centric hotels dotting the globe.

Fantastic news for Hobart, it really shows how much this city has changed over recent years. This hotel will also make quite a statement being the tallest building in Hobart's CBD.

At 10 meters shorter than Wrest Point in Sandy Bay it's no sky scraper. For a basket case state don't know why there's so much tourism all of a sudden.

Who said it was a skyscraper? Tourism in Tasmania is booming ahead at the moment. There are six major hotel developments approved or on the go in Hobart's CBD at the moment, including a 15 storey Vibe Hotel just one block from the soon to be Hobart Hyatt. Hobart Airport is undergoing a major renovation and its runway is being extended to 2,750 metres to allow for fully-laden flights from Asia. Not sure where your negativity is coming from?

Fantastic news. Hobart badly needs a supply of modern hotels to keep up with the tourist boom. There is not much there in terms of modern, international-chain offerings. Stayed at the Best Western not so long ago, I think the last time the place had a renovation was back in the 1980s.

Are there any Hyatt hotel in Hobart?

Good question.  I assumed they may have operated some other brands, but I just checked their website and none of the big chain ones here are Hyatt brands.  Not sure what that line means, unless they are just referring to occupancy rates in general?
