Apple’s AirTag tracking gizmos have soared to new heights of popularity among travellers eager to avoid lost luggage, or at least have a better idea of the whereabouts of their bags if they go missing.

Slip one of these button-sized Bluetooth wireless trackers into your bags and they’ll appear in the Find My app of your iPhone or Mac computer with amazing accuracy.

And now the Apple AirTag is even better and more flexible.

When first launched in 2021, each Apple AirTag could only be ‘owned’ and used by a single person.

But Apple's latest iOS 17 software update for iPhones lets AirTag owners easily share their AirTags with others.

Frequent flyers who’ve long been requesting AirTag sharing will welcome this feature, which is accessible through the Find My app by selecting any specific AirTag and choosing the ‘Share This AirTag’ option.

After choosing Add Person, type a contact's name and hit the Send button. Now both you and that person will be able to see this AirTag’s location in the Find My app.

Each AirTag can be shared with as many as five people, which is super handy for sharing a handful of trackers with family members or work colleagues.

And with Apple AirTags sold in packs of four, it’s probably a good time to invest in a handful of these smart trackers to cover your upcoming travels for 2024.

Had a weird one last week; flying from Auckland to LA, when we arrived in LA 2 of our tags showed as being in Cairo!  Thankfully a glitch but weird, never seen that before.

Airtags saved me in December when my bags were tagged to Munich but I was diverted to Frankfurt due to the closure of Munich Airport for 3 days. British Airways were great they intercepted ny Munich tagged bags at Heathrow. BA put them on the same plane as me to Frankfurt. The bags showed up in the same Frankfurt terminal as me thanks to the airtags. But then I had to watch on my iphone my bags being taken across the airport to the Lufthansa Terminal with ruthless German efficiency so they could be sent on to Munich. Thankfully the lost baggage counter responded Airtag information and to my Hogans Heroes German exhortations of 'Raus' und 'Schnell'', and the bags came back to me 2 hours later!
