Qantas says it won’t let dogs, cats fly in the cabin
Mar 08, 2024, 08:00 PMIf Virgin wants to attract pet owners as customers, more power to them. I'm happy to fly on any other airline that doesn't allow pets in the cabin. In any case, I wonder the idea will ever really fly, because as others have pointed out, there might be OH&S/compensation issues. Also, I do...

Emirates A380 premium economy to Sydney, London, Paris from August 1
Apr 14, 2022, 04:29 PMAn extra few inches seat pitch can make a lot of difference. When Thai flew A345s I flew PE class LAX-BKK. Seat pitch was 42", I'm 193cm, and the seat was was very comfortable for a flight that took (from memory) about 17 hours. The generous seat pitch (36" in Economy!) probably didn't stack up a...

What was your best upgrade?
Jan 06, 2022, 03:01 PMIn the good old days of the Ansett/Cathay connection, I flew with Cathay to Amsterdam and in Hong Kong, I was upgraded to business. I had barely settled in my aisle seat when I was approached by the flight purser. 'Mr Dundas?' My heart sank. 'You're not going to put be back down the back again?' ...

Thailand opens to vaccinated Australians from November
Oct 22, 2021, 01:37 PMThe Thai government changes the rules at the drop of a hat but I'm still inclined to give Chiang Mai a shot in December for a couple of weeks.

Last chance: free points, status credits in Qantas Vaccination Rewards
Aug 25, 2021, 05:52 PMI'm not too keen on the apps government departments provide. I used my MacBook to access my Medicare file. Emailed it as an attachment to myself and then accessed the email and downloaded the file on the phone. When the time came to upload, that was the first file to appear.

Up to 63K fines and jail time - travel loophole
Apr 27, 2021, 07:10 PMI would like to see some decisive action on quarantine arrangements (which are clearly still not working well), on helping the government of PNG and our other neighbours, and on a better communicated vaccination program (the present figures don't look like we'll get anywhere near herd immunity) &...

Traveller etiquette
Apr 07, 2021, 07:28 PMI was wearing headphones on a JAL flight from Hawaii to Tokyo when I was asked by a cabin attendant to turn the volume down, which I did. I hadn't even realised the sound could be heard by anyone else. But at least in my case the crew were doing their job.

Qantas vs Jetstar for Melbourne-Tokyo
Jan 20, 2019, 06:22 PMI'd definitely consider the 7 day JR pass already mentioned. The cost works out more or less the same as a return Tokyo-Osaka ticket so all other JR travel on that pass, including the JR train between Narita and Tokyo, is a bonus, as long as it's within the 7 days. It can be great value, but you ...

Jetstar flight cancellations - is this normal?
Nov 21, 2017, 08:32 AMI had Jetstar cancel a Melbourne-Newcastle flight after I had gone to the airport and checked in - about half an hour before boarding time, from memory. It was late in the evening and my only choice was to rebook on QF's last flight of the day to Sydney and get a rental car from there (I snared ...

Why Qantas didn't fit 2-4-2 economy seating to the Boeing 787-9
Jun 25, 2017, 08:23 PMGreat to know the "behind the scenes" aspects! My solution is simple -- I won't visit Qantas front of house in the cheap seats, and I don't fly on airlines with 3-3-3 on their 787s (tried it once). Which means I don't fly many 787s at all, but am looking forward to travelling on JAL to Japan -- 2...
