Video: Qantas retires Boeing 767 to airplane graveyard
Watch the final flight of a Qantas Boeing 767-300ER, and see its final resting place at California's Victorville airplane graveyard, in this clip from current affairs show 60 Minutes.
Reporter Charles Woolley joins Qantas pilot and Fleet Captain Georgina Sutton for the retirement of VH-OGG, which across its 25 flying years has carried five million passengers and made the equivalent of 140 return trips to the moon.
It's a wonderfully-told story with plenty of appeal to travellers, even if you're not an aviation geek – so set aside 15 minutes, sette back and enjoy.
Qantas will retire its final Boeing 767-300ER at the end of this year with a special flight from Melbourne to Sydney on December 27.

It's sad to see OGG go, but aircraft age and eventually it's time to go. I flew her just once last year, while in the Disney livery. I remember my avgeek friends were devastated I actually got to fly on her (as opposed to just getting photos).
The video is a great watch.

Something awfully nostalgic about seeing all those QF 744's, a look back to better / easier times.

Charles mentions that aircraft such as this 767 are being retired to make way for newer aircraft. Can someone please tell me what new aircraft Qantas has on order for either its domestic or international divisions? I can't think of any aircraft on order that are going to end up with a red tail...

You're quite right, RK – there are no 'new' aircraft in terms of rolling fresh out of the factory, apart from the last Boeing 737-800 (the RetroRoo) on the order books. What Qantas is getting of course are the ex-Jetstar Airbus A330s, which are 'new' members of the Qanats fleet but not 'new' in the sense of shiny zero-k's-on-the-clock aircraft.

Are these A330's new to Qantas for the first time or are they simply being "returned" to Qantas from baby brother Jetstar?

They are all ex-Jetstar. Hilariously, some of the Jetstar A330s are ex-Qantas to begin with, such as VH-EBC (the Albino DeathStar).

It was hardly probing journalism with lots of questions unasked like "What are the ex-767 pilots going to do?...". It was more like an advertorial. It should have been on the Morning Show alongside the knives and weight loss programs rather than a supposedly flagship current affairs program.
