Virgin Australia ends one-off lounge access

Virgin Australia is closing down the 'single-entry pass' program through which infrequent flyers can purchase a one-off entry into its airport lounges.

Today's your last chance to buy 'Single Entry' passes online for $55 each, although a Virgin Australia spokeswoman assured Australian Business Traveller that "online pre-paid passes purchased prior to 31 January 2012 will be honoured within their standard expiry dates."

Walk-up access to the lounge for a flat $65 was discontinued at the end of December.

Virgin Australia Velocity members will still receive two free lounge passes when they reach Silver status, and the spokeswoman says the program to issue a free lounge pass for every 100 Velocity status credits earned "will be launched in the near future".

Virgin Australia began trialling the system late last year, issuing "several thousand" members of its Velocity frequent flyer program with free one-time passes to the airline's lounges around Australia.

What does this mean for those with online passes purchased? Are these passes valid after Jan 31st?

Yes - as the article mentions, "online pre-paid passes purchased prior to 31 January 2012 will be honoured within their standard expiry dates"...
