From January 2012, The Peninsula Hong Kong will undergo major renovations, expected to last until April 2013. While the hotel will still be open, some disruption is expected.
A statement from The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, the owners of the location, did not specify how many rooms would be shut down while the upgrades are taking place. They did, however, warn investors that room revenue will be down. From this, it can be expected that a significant percentage of rooms will not be available.
Rooms at the hotel will be completely redesigned, though the nature of decor and interior design has not yet been announced. This is the first substantial upgrade to the Peninsula since 1994, when a thirty-story tower was added to the building.
