Accor offers free digital newspapers, magazines at 3,600 hotels

Guests at Accor hotels worldwide can now download their favourite newspapers and magazines for free from around the globe to their mobile phone, iPad or tablet via the PressReader app.

Spanning thousands of titles from more than 100 countries and in 60 languages, travellers stopping by Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure and Pullman brands now have free reign over the world’s press, as they do when staying at all other properties under the Accor banner.

There’s only one catch – it only works when you’re connected to the hotel’s own wireless network to start the download, which often comes at a fee.

Naturally, Silver, Gold and Platinum members of Le Club Accorhotels aren’t billed for in-room Internet access, although that perk doesn’t apply to base-level Classic member.

Instead, we’d suggest heading down to the hotel’s lobby – or bringing the iPad to breakfast in the hotel restaurant or lounge – and pulling down your reading list from there.

Whatever you’re reading, everything is downloaded to your device and can be browsed when you’re not connected to the internet, such as during a flight or even after you’ve returned home.

It’s a similar setup to that in Virgin Australia’s domestic lounges, to which Aussie travellers have had access since March last year.

Hi

I am currently at Novotel Nathan Rd HK. I have connected my iPad to the hotel wifi, downloaded PressReader but no joy -still need to pay for newspapers. I called reception and off course, no clue.

Do I need to supply any special settings?

Regards

Richie
