Brisbane Airport open overnight, but road closures are worsening

Brisbane Airport authorities are confident that the airport will stay open throughout the night, with pumps already set up on the airfield in case they're needed for drainage.

Confirming Australian Business Traveller's earlier interview with an airport representative, both the domestic and international terminals are open.

The airport's own website is not currently showing arrival and departure information due to a glitch, but other flight information sources (including flightstats.com) show occasional scattered arrival delays for some domestic Australian flights.

The majority of flights appear to be arriving and departing on time. The airport is currently recommending that travellers contact their airline directly for the latest information about whether their particular flight will arrive or depart as planned.

As we reported earlier, public transport to and from Brisbane Airport is running, but on a limited basis:

  • Airtrain Gold Coast service is running but only to Yeerongpilly, and the airport tells us that there is no alternative transport from this point.
  • South Brisbane station is closed, and the Airport line is running half-hourly.
  • TransLink and Airtrain services are free of charge until further notice.
  • All Brisbane Bus transport services have been suspended for the remainder of Wednesday.
  • TransLink is hoping to run bus services 111, 130, 140, 150, 200, 333, 345 and 385 tomorrow on a half-hourly schedule.
  • Coachtrans night services for Wednesday night have been cancelled.

Airport authorities are directing questions about public transport to TransLink.com.au.

Road closures are also increasing around the airport, with Brisbane City Council reporting closures on many surrounding streets, including Kingsford Smith Drive,  the Breakfast Street Tunnel, Abbotsford Road, Agnes Street, Fox Street, Crosby Road, Massey Street and Sandgate Road.

Brisbane City Council continues to post updates on road closures to its Facebook Notes page
