China Southern to fly to Frankfurt (with stopover at Changsha)
China Southern will add Frankfurt to its growing Canton Route network in June, but for Australian travellers it'll be a two-stop service.
The Guangzhou-Frankfurt flights will call in at Changsha, a city directly north of Guangzhou in the Hunan Province, before spearing north-west towards the German financial hub.
The flights from Guangzhou will run three days a week - on Monday, Wednesday and Friday – from June 20 on China Southern's Airbus A330-200 series jets.
Following a 9.30pm depart from Guangzhou, the flight will reach Changsha at 10.45pm, continuing on at 11.55pm for a 6am touchdown at Frankfurt.
The return flights will leave Frankfurt at 6.45am on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, landing in Changsha at 6.45am the next day and then reaching Guangzhou at 9.15am.
China Southern's existing Canton Route services to London and Amsterdam involve a direct flight from Guangzhou and thus a single stopover from Australia.
The Changsha pit-stop en route to Frankfurt is likely to cruel the route's appeal compared to other one-stop services such as those of Qantas-Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Etihad and Singapore Airlines.

Hmmm...they could have waited for their new 777-300ER which could have allowed them to go directly.
Or is it just traffic?

I dunno, they have some bizarre flights in China. There's even a Shanghai Pudong to Dubai via Kunming on China Eastern - it's twice-weekly and on a 767-300ER with recliner seats in business.

Your point is correct, except that that flight runs on an A330 with fully flat seats in business.
