I'll be travelling from SYD to HKG next month on Cathay economy, will the MPC Silver give me access to SYD lounge? Or will I have to resort to the AMEX lounge with my credit card?

Yes, it will. You'll be handed an invitation card, when checking in at the airport.

JamesHK, Incorrect, It will not. CX MPC Silver only grants access to a CX own/ operated lounge, not a J class lounge (such as the Qantas Business Lounge) within the OW alliance as Silver is only Ruby OW status.
Have a nice trip! Have a great time in the AMEX lounge ;)

Guess I must have got lucky the last couple times I flew out of SYD and BNE then, both times invited to Qantas Lounge.

Although he may have been given a lounge invite before, on paper he doesn't have the right to enter the qantas lounge under the one world lounge access policy as he is only OW ruby. CX often give lounge access as a gesture of good will and is varied between port and who checks you in and if they are feeling nice :) if you tried to enter the lounge without a lounge invite and displaying your MPC silver card you will be declined entry, a Cathay own/ operated lounge is a different story on the other hand.

Agree totally....the upcoming changes to the MPC render the program uncompetitive time to depart CX .

If the airport doesn't have a CX lounge an you are a silver Marco Polo member, CX will invites you to a partner lounge with no guest.
