So it seems both pax may be blacklisted. In my mind it seems the woman reclining the seat is at no fault initially (who knows what happened after the man reacted).
But for the avoidance of any doubt, what do readers suggest if this ever happens to you as you recline?
Bearing in mind the flight attendants may not want to get involved to mediate/resolve the situation as it flares. Does jungle law prevail, with the biggest bully winning?
Of course the best thing to do is not fly a budget airline that transport a certain demographic. Let's assume, there is no choice and one is forced to fly such a carrier.
Don't blame the people, blame the system ... a lot of air rage incidents can be sheeted back to the airlines, in particular because of the way they are jamming seats closer together, a common criticism of Jetstar business class. The seats down the back are undoubtedly much worse in terms of seat pitch, but don't recline as far.
The smh article on this said the pax were in business class (http://www.smh.com.au/business/aviation/passengers-escorted-off-jetstar-flight-jq33-to-sydney-after-midair-fight-20161006-grwqhq.html) - is the pitch in Jetstar business really that bad?
The Phuket and Bali routes operated by Jetstar seem to occasionally have some interesting characters on board.
But behaving like that onboard a flight is never acceptable.
I feel sorry for these destinations getting a bad rap. Getting the right type of tourism is so important. Pitch it to the wrong crowd and you're always on the back foot cleaning up your reputation.
Call it manners but I always have a quick look behind me before I recline my seat to make sure my fellow passenger is not leaning forward, drinking hot coffee with the tray down etc. I've had several people (with status) simply slam back their seat into my face without a word of warning. It is rude and not simply your right to recline into my personal space (which is what you're doing).

It isn't at all. For the price (cheap) it is a great deal with plenty of space. That said, it can come as a shock if unexpected (who knows how the mother had positioned herself).
I doubt the issue was space related but rather (initially) a lack of courtesy regarding the recline and (subsequently) an intoxicated bogan.

Do we know the woman reclined into the man? Maybe it was the other way?

Woman reclined into man's mother. Just as well they have a bulk supply of cable ties on those LCC's.
