As weâve reported this morning, Virgin Australia frequent flyers are now able to convert Flybuys points into Velocity points and earn Velocity status credits through Flybuys. Hereâs a quick summary of the details:
Velocity frequent flyer points
Earn one Flybuys point per dollar at Coles (inc online), First Choice Liquor, Liquorland, Kmart, Kmart Tyre and Auto Service, Target, Telstra, Medibank, NAB, AGL, Budget Car and Truck Rental, Etihad Airways, OPSM, Weight Watchers, Goodlife Health Clubs and other partners listed at the Flybuys website.
2,000 Flybuys points convert to 870 Velocity points (same âexchange rateâ as Woolworths Rewards > Qantas)
Minimum âtransferâ from Flybuys into Velocity is 2,000 Flybuys points (870 Velocity points)
Annual âtransferâ cap of 138,000 Flybuys points (60,030 Velocity points) each calendar year
Velocity points should hit your account the day after you process the transfer
Velocity status credits
Earn 1 Velocity status credit for every $100 spent in total (doesnât need to be a single purchase) at Coles, Coles Online, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor
Maximum of 10 status credits earned via Flybuys per calendar month
Frequent flyers will need to link their Flybuys and Velocity accounts at Flybuys.com.au/Velocity in order to start earning status credits
You can also continue to earn Etihad Guest tier miles for every $1 spent at Coles Supermarkets and selected partners, on top of their Velocity status credit earn â a nice bit of double-dipping if that takes your fancy!
Linked my Flybuys account with my velocity account successfully but when I went to transfer my points it wouldn't allow me to change the number of points to be transferred, only wanted to transfer the minimum of 2000
Noticed this too - figured it was something to do with one of my browser extensions. The page will happily let you redeem the reward multiple times (albeit that could get tedious depending on the number of flybuys points you have!)
A very good move by Virgin, now I wonder if 'family pooling' can be used to collect more than the mandated '10 SCs per month' limit? I don't see any reason why not!
FYI: there are some good special promo deals coming up at Coles for earning extra Flybuys, sent out to members on a 'personalised' basis, for example Oct 26-29 will see "10x points on your biggest shop at Coles for spends over $100".

I did wonder about that! It is really good news that you can do both!
$100 on Fuel with Coles at Shell will be doable twice a month of not four times but is it better to earn VA points with BP? Hrmmmmmm
That is a very interesting question, and one I had not thought of.
I guess for me, the fact that my local Coles Express has priced itself well above the others in the area, means the decision is sort of made for me at the moment. If the prices were the same, well....I am not sure
Hmm. Got an offer today that will allow me to trade my 4 cent a litre fuel discount for 8 FlyBuys points (per litre). If I were to take that, and convert to Velocity, that sounds a bit like 3.5 Velocity Points per litre.
