Qantas has made its Sydney-Bali (Denpasar) flights daily now and this can be a good status run on a 'double status credits' offer in business class. A shame it's only a Boeing 737, I'd much rather spend the six hours in the A330 business class, especially on the overnight return leg of QF44. You earn 120 status credits each way so that's 240SCs return, so under a double status credit deal you're looking at 480SCs. Anyway, QF43 leaves Sydney at 5.10pm, gets you into Denpasar at 8.50pm, then you can transit and jump straight back onto QF44 at 9.50pm to get back to Sydney at 6.50am.
Another good status run, if you happen to be in EU is to jump on the LATAM flight between FRA and MAD. 2 hour flight, 787 J, about $AUD250 - 300 return; 120SC and 2,750 pts.
Isn't "good Qantas status runs" a contradiction in terms? Qantas revenue management across its network is so tight it's challenging to find sweet spots. What is the $/SC rates for DPS and CGK?
I typically head up to BKK with the new layout on the A330.(for a few days rather than straight back); its around 320 SCs return (via mel): so around 640 if a double SC offer that is handy...
I'm keeping my eyes and ears open as I need a large flight to keep platinum...
Re: The Bali and Jakarta return flights, I'm assuming these need to be made as separate bookings? I just jumped on the Qantas website to have a look at prices and it wouldn't allow me to book an out going and return journey departing on the same day.
Also for London based people I found flying BA Club Europe to LHW to Lisbon return yields 120 SC's and 2,750 pts for around $550-$600 if it is booked as a 'city break'. Okay it's BA and an A320, but if you are doing a points run it's not a terrible experience...
The thing about Jakarta fares is how amazingly cheap they can be had, around $2300 return in business class, especially on weekends or when Qantas has its 'mid-week Jakarta sale'. Do that under a double status credit booking and it's best value for 480SCs in town.
Wait till Monday - see if there's a sale...first class on EK Metal, QF No. but from AKL to SYD/MEL/BNE return....should be about $1800/1900. 240SC, 480 with the double SC offer. Business would be about 1300 return and net 320 with the double. I rarely see specials going AU to NZ return though.

That's actually a pretty common sale at around $1100 return in J. Doubt it'll crop up during the double SC promo though.
AFF has a massive, and I do mean massive, thread on QF status runs :)
Qantas still has US fares on sale until 13 March, you are restricted to certain travel dates but plenty of scope to book under double status credits through to February 2018!
One of AusBT's favourite travel agents, Alicia Clark [from Travel Managers Australia, who is perhaps the most status-savvy frequent flyer-friendly agent we've ever found, and can be reached at [email protected]] has compiled this list of good business class status runs for consideration under the current Double Status Credit promotion:
* Melbourne-Sydney-Denpasar-Sydney-Melbourne: $1763, double status credit earn is 640SCs * Sydney-Melbourne-Christchurch-Melbourne-Sydney: $1617, double status credit earn is 480SCs * Canberra-Melbourne-Sydney-Christchurch-Sydney-Melbourne-Canberra: $1922, double status credit earn is 680SCs * Melbourne-Sydney-Jakarta-Sydney-Melbourne: $2288, double status credit earn is 640SCs (note that fares are subject to advance purchase periods and of course subject to availability)
So working on the basis of flying the first sugested route, you can go from zero status credits to life time gold in 20 return trips and $35260....what grants the question, how much is QFF status worth?
Just booked SYD/MEL/CHC/BNE/SYD for $1617 for Queen's B'day.. had a scare there though.. got to the checkout but tried to see if one of the SYD/MEL flights were operated by an A330, but when I searched again, the fare went to ~$2600... thankfully QF had already generated a PNR and held the price!

I prefer Sydney-Jakarta, exact same number of SCs but you get the A330 Business Suites :)
