They're not really worth the paper they're written on. Nobody is doubting QR have a great product, same with SQ et al. but if you asked a lot of people who they would prefer to travel with, QF or Garuda, what do you think their answer would be?

Don't underestimate Garuda. After the transformation they have greatly improved their product which IMHO, much better than QF in many aspect.
Of course I would still choose QF over GA, not because QF has a better product but because of safety.
Good point Michael Kao. Garuda have transformed themselves product wise, including new aircraft and an on board hard and soft product that is excellent. But money can't change a safety culture which is entrenched, as with many Asian carrier, in subservience to the Captain. That can be an issue on any airline though.
I have no questions about these ratings. Garuda has come so very far, and is now a fantastic airline to travel. Their premium cabins are streets ahead of QF and Leave SQ behind. IMHO - Qantas has slipped, and continues to do so...I posted a thread about their deteriorating First class product (boo hoo I know) and got loads of responses (mixed on the whole) but they are dropping. Pity I still love them and will keep them as my preferred carrier (for now).
Of all the airlines to feature in the Top 20, Hainan airlines really surprised me at #9. Thoughts from anyone who's recently flown Hainan why it's ranked so far ahead of Qantas??
the ratings seem consistent with other ratings and postings online, I know there are alot of Qantas apologists out their but their International Buis product is just plain ordinary pretty well everyone else has a better product I fly the Pacific to USA quite reguarly and Qantas are about on par with Fiji at the moment. Qantas are real good at pretty much every thing else but the International long haul product is just plain bad. While I am at it the so called Neil Perry food is very ordinary from what I have eaten everyone else has better food and wine service but I am only talking about Pacific routes, I have flown them all.

I guess that Skytrax's 5 Star rating inclusion of Hainan should give you a clue or two, VictorT. This is a vaunted rating of 'select' members worldwide and is small, by definition. QF, on the other hand, is rated as a 4 Star airline.

You're right and i can see that - but what i'm after is the point of difference if you can provide a few areas where they're doing better? Just curious.
