This will be good news for the sandgropers if it takes off. The WA Govt is in talks with both ANA and JAL to launch direct flights between Perth and Tokyo, something they have been seeking for over a decade according to The West Australian.
SQ with "55 direct flights to Perth a week" ? Possibly that is counting fights in both directions, not "to Perth". Direct flights to Japan were operated by Qantas until the tsunami in 2011. It would be great for Perth for one of the airlines to re-start direct services.

I read this while sitting in the lounge in MEL having just arrived on QF80 from Narita and waiting for my connecting flight to Perth. They would have my business should this eventuate!
As a regular Per- Japan traveller I am usually flying CX morning flight from Perth and onto a CX Japan flight. Would be really good to get the direct Japan flight again since Qantas stopped Perth to Tokyo a few years back.
Ps have heard qf PER-HKG could be making a 2 or 3 day appearance again only a whisper at this stage but there is some noise. No doubt using another trans con 332.
QF are slowly but surely giving Perth some flights with
Daily PER-SIN
Daily PER-LHR
Three weekly PER-AKL to resume shortly.
A lot better than the full hiatus a few years back. With PER-HKG potential to resume and more 787 destinations touted will be a few QF options from Perth again.

There was an article on Australian Aviaton a few weeks ago that suggested it and I have a bit of inside knowledge

QF either upgrades to a330 or has 2x b737 flights on Friday and weekends during school holiday/peak periods.

I suspect there will be quite a few Travel Agent charter options available for that if the airlines aren't doing it themselves...
