My Qantas club renewal was due in July. I missed the email. Due to being gold a couple years ago, access did not expire until mid September. Have been a QC member for 22 years. Told I have to rejoin, and pay rejoin fee. Could not rejoin and backdate. Anyone share, or have beaten this approach to ‘Loyalty’.
9 Years ago when I got to Gold I got an email saying the time left over on my Qantas Club membership will be added on when my status drops from Gold. Not dropped from Gold so I guess if and when I do it will be in limbo.

It is reasonable for there to be a grace period to backdate to mid-September without paying joining fee.
Find the address for Mr Joyce and send him a letter. I suspect it will fix this problem.
When I first attained Gold, I was told the same as Yaf above - that my Qantas Club membership would resume on falling from Gold status (I still had more than a year paid up). I have not fallen below Gold since and now, as Lifetime Gold, I never will - no word from Qantas about refunding me what I have paid, of course.

Should have got a life membership 22 years ago. No renewals and you would be ahead money wise by now.
Qantas have done me over this morning with the same thing. Mine expired on the 31AUG, but my FF anniversary date is 31MAR, I've always flashed my FF card this year and had no issue. I called up today to enquire and they said I needed to pay the $399 joining fee again + 1 year at $540.
A QF Club member since 1992....and have just had the same thing happen to me....missed the email ( yes, my fault ) but, we really want your membership renewal money, PLUS a $399 re-joining fee....very apologetic gent on the Club phone line, who did attempt to get a 'higher up' to make an exception....but, to no avail....on principle I won't pay it....I guess I'll just wait until I hit Gold or Platinum again....poor form Qantas !

Ah yes - the wisdom of hindsight. However - then I could definitely NOT afford a lifetime membership!

I got a 10% discount on joining and 1 year fee through Business Rewards, since I have an ABN number.
The new Qantas website has an item that says "Qantas Club member - your membership expires on 31 January 2019". What makes this ridiculous is that I am a Platinum and Lifetime Gold.
Some airline call centre staff think customers do not have a clue. Called Virgin today to book an urgent ticket for my niece and nephew, was told they have to book a more expensive ticket, luckily I was online and could book a cheaper ticket which was available the same time that I was talking to the call centre

Don’t wait for Qantas to contact you. When I reached Lifetime Gold I rang Qantas and asked if my unused Qantas Club $ could be refunded, they applied a calculation and they were.
OP, if QF keeps saying no, there is always AFF's membership Gold, where you join that forum as a Gold Member, let them know, and you can get discounted QP.
Of course, you might already be aware of my the AFF membership Gold (my mumble above).

I think the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card allows you to avoid paying the joining fee. There's an AUSBT article about this.
