Qantas Singapore Lounge or Qantas First Class?

Hi guys just a quick question/poll to gauge some opinions on which option you'd go for. One part is not guaranteed however...


So I will be flying from DEL-SYD via SIN on a MONDAY in business class soon and have a couple of flight options (bear in mind I am a Gold QFF..):

The first part of leg is with JET Airways in their 737 (unfortunately) so thats a non negotiable..
After that should I,

a) take the quickest route home with only a 1hr layover in SIN and use the Qantas Lounge there BUT putting in a request to upgrade to FIRST on the A380 (costing around 25k in points) and hope for the upgrade to go through to experience First class for the 'first' time..

b) have a slightly longer wait at SIN Qantas lounge (2.5hrs) and come home on the A330 and their Business class (which i have no issues with FYI)

Love to hear some thoughts on those that have experienced FIRST on the A380 and also those that have spent time in the SIN Qantas Lounge. Note i will be using the lounge at SIN in the evening time slot..

Also what chance people think I've got of getting that FIRST upgrade for that SIN-SYD Leg? I feel those that have requested at the LHR end (start of the route) may have an edge? Unless a few from FIRST are only doing LHR-SIN then disembarking? Hmmm

The SIN-SYD A380 flights don't start till very late March.


Your chances depend on a variety of factors including factors you've mentioned. I flew LHR-DXB-MEL last year and expected more passengers in F for the longer DXB-MEL leg but there were fewer. It's very hard to predict.

A somewhat accurate guess at the chances can't really be made till less than a week out from the flight looking at the loads.

Note passengers will only be upgraded LHR-SIN if they are not flying onwards to SYD or QF can upgrade them for both legs. If they can't be upgraded for both legs and they have elected for an upgrade as late as the gate they'd be in the running along with you if you also selected that option.

Flying SIN-SYD you'd miss out on getting a dedicated First Lounge experience before your flight, but then the onboard experience is the main thing about First.

If you've got the points I'd say go for it. If you like it you may wish to do it again sometime in the other direction when you fly from SYD to SIN and get to try the First Lounge in SYD (if your upgrade is processed before you check-in).

The Qantas Sing lounge is pretty average, its a combined lounge for Qantas Club, Gold, Plat, Business and First - oh and Jetstar - was in there the other day with what looked like 2 footy teams and 2 delayed Jetstar flights, place was nuts....so I would suggest you keep the transit as short as possible....

I disagree. QF SIN as well as HKG are some of the nicest QF lounges (excluding F lounges) on the network. Nice spot to relax and great espresso martinis! Chin chin!

Absolutely agree. Was in there myself last week and it was average to say the least. Views of check in counters provide an outlook that makes you want to leave. Can't compare this to the HK lounge. Miles apart.

I would get the first flight out or go the EK lounge and then wait for the A330 which has great business class seats.

Qantas made the call to use Sing as a Europe hub some time ago from this year, now running A380s via the Sing Hub rather than Dubai, the lounge will be overrun at peak times, you think they would have made a First Lounge or at least separated a Business lounge from a Qantas Club - us precious, delicate, P1's don't like mingling with the general rif raf....

HK lounge agree is very good

I always go next door to BA or head to EK. Product at both is on paper slightly inferior but so much better ambience in both.

I'd be more concerned about the 1 hour transit. If your incoming flight is delayed in any way, you'll be in trouble.

Some say the SIN QF Business lounge is like a big cafeteria. That said the staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. With SIN becoming the new QF hub many are wondering how it will cope with the loads coming and going. I read (probably ABT article) that First passengers get a seperate area in the lounge. I did see "Reserved" signs on a couple of tables onetime, probably it. But you do get served French Champagne. I wouldn't delay an earlier flight to spend time there. QF A380 First is reported to have excellent food, drink and service. I too will be looking to experience it soon.

Good point. If for example the flight was delayed an hour and impossible to make the first flight, how does qantas go about putting those connecting passengers onto the later flight and still in Business class cabin?? ( i cant imagine there would be heaps of us connecting to that flight but still..)

Good point. If for example the flight was delayed an hour and impossible to make the first flight, how does qantas go about putting those connecting passengers onto the later flight and still in Business class cabin?? ( i cant imagine there would be heaps of us connecting to that flight but still..)
