VA announced last Dec it was seeking regulatory approval for codeshare flights to London, with Virgin Atl thru HK. Sensible given their new HK service, its a great stopover and likely to be well supported. My question is : does anybody hv an idea how long that approval process will take ??
No idea. I don't know why you would wait though. I certainly agree that HKG is an excellent stopover. You can, however, travel with CX (a first class carrier) already and stopover via HKG.
Realistically, VA's "vanity service" to HKG is a daily service ex-MEL. By contrast, there is 3x daily CX service and a daily QF service. Both options then offer a range of excellent connections onto LHR. It is the benefit of being a proper international carrier.
I've flown all 3 carriers on the route (in J) and thought VA was easily the best of the 3 because the food and service were much better than the other 2.
Fingers crossed for a VA syd-hkg service, to tie-up with V.Atlantic onto the UK soon.
Would take VA's business dining and friendly down-to-earth crew, over CX business with their robotic, at times even surly crew, as they serve economy portioned meals. Do love the CX lounges in hkg though.

I cannot recommend CX more highly.
VA are only on this route because part-owner HNA group can't fly this route on their own (through HX) due to the bilaterals on the HKG end being full. It is basically a VA/HX JV.
Here goes Covvers on their VA bashing again.. bored of reading it.
With the exception of CX’s lounges, VA business beats them in every other category in my opinion. Hope they can get the slots to get SYD - HKG up and running and give as an alternative to the OW monopoly.

Just to add my 2 cents regarding Syd-HKG VA service. I spoke to a lady at VA few days ago and asked her about it. She had no clue, she said they haven't heard anything in the office, there's been no discussions either.
So in my opinion, that service is some time away yet.

I agree. I do think VA’s The Business is one of the best hard product in the sky.
