How do they assign seats on these types of promotional flights? I assume there are more invited guests than premium class seats available.

Depends on the aircraft and the number of media invited, but these trips rarely see a large media contingent. Typically we're in business class because that's our speciality and that's what we are reviewing, although on the Qantas Boeing 787 delivery flight I made sure to spend a lot of time in the new premium economy seat.


If you look at the delivery flight for Cathay Pacific's first Boeing 777-300ER with its then-new premium economy seating, for example: the CX execs were in business class while media were in premium economy because that was 'the job'.

As promised, an update on delivery flight SQ8878 based on the latest media itinerary

* departs Charleston at 2100 on Monday March 26

* arrives into Osaka for a tech stop from 0230 to 0330 on Wednesday March 28

* arrives Singapore at 1000 on March 28, with arrival ceremony at SIN's JetQuay terminal from 1020

SQ have announced that Perth will be the second 787-10 destination starting in May 2018. Look forward to hearing reviews on this.
