Just returned from lhr and was served piper heidseck rare 2002. Have QF run out of taittinger? Not that I'm complaining as I have found my new favourite champagne. I'm just going to have to work out how I'm to afford the $270 at uncle Dans!!

I had it DXB-MEL last week and was told it had just changed. Apparently it is still Taittinger in the other direction.

QF typically serve either Veuve Cliquot La Grande Dame, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, or Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill in First. PH Rare is new for them, and I'm not sure if its a long term addition because PH Rare is made irregularly and only has a small number of vintages. Could QF have secured enough for all their First services for several years? Maybe if they bought out the entire vintage but honestly I think this would have to be a temporary switch. Maybe Piper just offered them a really good deal?

Heidsiek Rare is an exceptional champagne. But so is Taittinger Comtes; and Pol Roger Churchill is my personal favourite. Sounds like a good time to be flying first in QF.

No surprise. It must because QF had a better deal by bulk-buying Piper-Heidsieck Rare rather than Taittinger CdC.

Any insights into the stock in the 1st lounges at present? Guessing it won’t be this stuff (which is understandable by the way)

Great that Qantas at least serve decent Champagne in First. Shame they are stingy with it in Business. They routinely list Taitinger, P Jouet, and Duval-Leroy on the menus but only ever seem to have the cheap rubbish D-L on board. Perhaps the PH Rare is a sign they’ll revamp the Business stock as well? Here’s hoping!

First International Lounge Sydney has an NV Taittinger (quaffable), a Pommery (awful IMHO) and the Mumm Rose (never bothered to try). I’m afraid I only get into the Lounge because I’m Platinum so don’t get to see what they stash under the counter, but there is usually something good open for First customers when there is an A380 going out.

NB Qantas doesn't offer first class. If you've been gullible enough to fall for the 'First' fallacy no comment. Its a business plus product, no more.

As an update. I had the PH Rare on board QF12 Saturday night. Very impressed. I too am a fan of Tatt Comtes and enjoy the Pol Rog Sir Winston but must say PH Rare was a revelation. I love my Champers and will say I enjoyed the PH Rare more than Dom and yes, more than Krug. Congrats to QF.
