Hi All, flying Virgin Atlantic 787-9 Shanghai to LHR return via HKG
what is best seat in Upper Class on these aircraft please

The A seats! Avoid 7A as it doesn’t have a window. Also the last 2 rows as they’re closer to the social area/washrooms.

Having just flown KLMs 789 btn AMS-SFO and CX’s A350 btn HKG-YVR, I’m not a huge fan of VS’s product, I felt quite suffocated. That said, it was an overall

Enjoyable end to end experience.


When flying out of London, be sure to use the Upper Wing checkin. It felt so nice to not use the regular LHR T3 terminal building; you just need to call VS about an hr or 2 before , provide them with your arrival time to the Teminal and the vehicle number plate and car model/colour so they can program their gates to open.

I can second MarkivJ on the matter of the A seats--as I'm sure you know VS's 1 - 1 - 1 configuration means that A seats face a divider and the left aisle gets much less foot traffic. Personally, my preference is for 5A, and then A seats forward of row 5 if not available. The back of the cabin can be considerably affected by the onboard bar, and unless you love sitting in the bar rows ten and eleven are not even worth considering. While service in J on VS is done from the forward galley, so forward seats have more service traffic, the J lavs are all aft of the cabin, so passenger foot traffic at the front of the cabin is limited. Between services, the forward part of the A aisle is by far the quietest place on the plane. All that is to say that I think seats in and ahead of row 5 offer a broadly quieter and more private experience.

3, 4 or 5A are ideal. VS was okay - not great not terrible. You'll either love or hate their 'cheeky style'

I hated the cheeky style, they were trying a bit too hard to be cool and friendly that it came across as tiring and contrived. But I love their choice of cocktails, drinks and desserts. Plus the IFE screen is pretty sharp, and the hard product is overall very strong
