Could be a great thing to do to pass some time, instead of sitting around for a few hours in between flights. bring people together for business/social networking events..

Probably because it would be difficult to capture an audience with so many different travel plans, and I suspect many individuals would prefer to relax while they are lounging.

Just my 2c, but I suppose we can't say for sure unless someone gives it a go!

Because that's not the point of lounges? If you really want this, feel free to set up your own lounge meets--they can be enormous fun socially.

If they could set aside a corner of the lounge and manage the 'networking event' appropriately with a theme etc then it might work but I think most people are in the lounge for only a short time before their flight and want to use that time to relax or do their own work.

And not many people stay hours in a lounge.

I'd expect most domestic visits are 15-30min

Qantas in Sydney has hosted a few events in their lounges. Not specifically "networking" events, but they've had music events and product launches there.

Events of this nature must inherently have broad appeal, by virtue of the fact that attendees will just be whatever random members of the QFF community are travelling on that particular day. For that reason, I think a dedicated networking event would be hard to arrange / would be better off being hosted in the city away from the airport.

Not to say I wouldn't be interested if I saw an ad-hoc event! Or if I knew that there were recurring events like this! (a la: "Every Friday from 4pm to 6pm is networking happy-hour at the South end of the lounge." sort of thing...)

I think I'd find it a novelty, and a great way to meet some fellow travellers!

perhaps they could have a cinema room where everyone sits in first class seats and watches movies together

The LinkedIn mobile app has a new 'nearby' feature if you enable it, so you can see who is around and connect for any networking opportunities, which may not be lounge-specific, but if they're close to you I guess there's a good chance they're in the same lounge.

I think a more suitable event should be a workshop like “How to make emails disappear”

Virgin Blue did something similar to that in the "Blue Room" lounges. Wasn't a bad idea at the time.

Doesn’t that sound like fun, 20 minutes before you board a plane and sit around watching movies.

In those precious few moments between the hassle of getting to the airport and pain of queuing and boarding, the last think I'd want is to be thrown in to "network" and find myself on the receiving end of a sales pitch from someone I had no desire to speak to. Still, horses for courses and long as whatever was happening didn't affect anyone else...
