“I had booked an air ticket and I had accidentally written my surname as
the first name on the air ticket and my first name becomes my surname
on the air ticket. Is this a problem ? Do I need to do a name change
with the airline ?
Normally airlines would not change the tickets, but let passengers travel despite swapped names, unless you are travelling internationally to e.g. US
On the other hand, you may miss on your points.
Call the airline in any case, they may allow some discretion in terms of reissuing the ticket again, especially if the flight was ticketed less than 24 hours ago.
I agree , it has to match your passport . You will be going through immigration , i suspect it would be standard practice for customs to pick these things up .
It won't be Aust customs/ABF, it would be prior to that stage, (it will be MH/MAS check in staff), as you will need to do your passport swipe at every international airport, prior to reaching Australian soil/sovereign territory.
That is how they know even before you board your flight, who is coming to Aust.
If someone is lucky to succeed in passing into our airport secure zone without a visa/suitable visa, then its Aust Customs/ABF who do the "nabbing".

I had this issue when a ticket was booked for me, at check in it didn't match and they had to write AKA (also known as) and have my names switched around. Most airlines allow name changes like this for free as its clear that its a simple mistake and you aren't really changing names.
Also Australian passport doesn't specify which is surname and which is first name. I noticed my passport simply put my last name on the top and given name under it.
If you can change then probably best to. As an aside my ticketed surname and passport rarely match as I have an apostrophe in it and most booking systems don’t allow you to add one. Travel every month internationally and only once has that ever been commented on

What's the airline and where are you travelling?

Australia can be tough, even with a visa, I think its best to call MH/MAS.

My experience ring and change - Technically your ticket needs to = your passport. If you do not change it will be up to the checkin staff
