I’m current Qantas Platinum and by years end will have enough points for 3 OW RTW business class tickets, which also means I’ll have enough points for 3 QF business class tickets to London.
Leaving aside preference (which at the RTW tickets), am I likely to have more luck getting one over the other? Planned travel is January 2020.
Both RTW OW rewards and QF reward seats come from the same availability. However, you're more likely to find space with the other OW airlines in Business class than QF.
The other main difference is QF Reward seats (at the cheaper rate) are limited to just QF and EK whereas you have a whole host of airlines apart of the OW with reward space (AY, BA, AA, CX etc).
Obviously, 2020 is a while away and quite frankly you might have to travel on different services at different times however here is my suggestion in terms of best reward seats I've seen:
Australia to Asia (CX, JL, QF, MH)
Asia to USA (JL or AA) (obviously if you can get Australia direct to USA go for it, however, space might be slim) You might need to fly into the West Coast then book an AA transcon to get over to the East coast.
USA to UK (BA or AA, both have plenty of space including BA1/2 - BA's A318 from JFK-LCY)
UK to Asia/Middle East (QF, QR, CX, AY, BA, MH)
Middle East/Asia to Australia (CX, JL, QF, MH)
Your biggest problem will be finding 3 seats which is possible, but you'll need to be flexible with destinations and dates currently oneworld rtw's exclude EK, JQ, FJ, MU and a host of other QF reward partners which is something to keep in mind.

3 people all wanting to travel together in Business? That’s pushing it. Especially in a peak holiday period and to a popular holiday destination.
