Just saw this in an email from Brisbane airport.
"From 30 June 2018, people travelling internationally will notice some changes to the screening of carry-on items when departing Australia.
Passengers will be required to present all powders in their carry-on baggage separately for screening."
The TravelSECURE website now has the details that powders have to be removed from bags (no plastic bag needed). It's separated into two categories:
"Inorganic powders - 350gram limit per person (eg Salt, Salt scrub, Sand, Some talcum powders, Some powdered deodorant, Certain foot powders, Powdered detergent and cleaning products)"
"Organic powders - no limit but still need to be removed from bags (eg Powdered baby formula, Powdered food, Coffee, Protein powder, Flour, spices, sugar, Most cosmetics and Epsom salt)
I appreciate this is all in the name of safety but I can see this will cause confusion as to what people need to take out as it can already be confusing for those not traveling often. I've just copied and pasted the list above but I'm already confused .Grannular

Soon we will have to empty our bags completely and put each item one by one through the scanner.

Damn. I guess I'll have to stop carrying a kilo of Epsom Salt with me in carry-on...

Believe some airlines are looking at removing overhead baggage holders altogether, so in these cases hand luggage won’t be an issue. In the name of security, they want all luggage checked in.

So the security line isn't bad enough already, let's think of something to clog it up even more.
